Energy Transition: Path to a Sustainable Future

The energy transition is a comprehensive process that seeks a gradual shift to a low-carbon economy. The process involves not only the generation of energy, but also the consumption and reuse and the replacement of polluting sources with renewable sources.

This transition is important for achieving environmental and social sustainability, and requires the integration of different sectors of society and the economy. In addition, the energy transition involves measures such as waste management, energy efficiency and digitization, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable innovations.

In Brazil, the energy transition is relevant due to the historical dependence on renewable sources, such as hydroelectric plants. The country already has a considerable renewable energy system, with half of the matrix coming from renewable sources in 2022. However, there are still challenges, such as dependence on fossil fuels in the transport sector. Digitization also plays an important role in the energy transition in Brazil, allowing the integration of energy generation and distribution systems.

Globally, the energy transition has been discussed in international agreements such as the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. Countries such as the Netherlands, France and the United States have set ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the use of clean energy sources. Companies play a key role in this process, seeking solutions that increase energy efficiency and replace non-renewable sources with cleaner alternatives. The energy transition is also in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 7, which seeks affordable and clean energy for all.
