Distributed Generation: drop in the price of solar panels boosts the energy market

In Brazil, the distributed generation market is being driven by the drop in the price of solar panels, including polysilicon, the main raw material. Installations have already surpassed 22 GW, with an estimate of ending the year with around 26 GW of capacity. Residential PV systems have also seen a 44% drop in prices between 2016 and 2022. China, responsible for 80% of global production, is contributing to this drop by increasing production capacity. In addition, new technologies such as perovskite are being developed to lower costs and make solar energy more competitive. With the reduction in prices and the expansion of installed capacity, an increase in the share of solar panels in the Brazilian energy matrix is expected, promoting a transition to more sustainable sources.
