With winter imminent, financial challenges and home heating concerns are at the top of Brits' minds. Revelations from a recent study, conducted by research firm Currys, highlight the difficulties many families are facing when trying to keep their homes warm during the cold season.
According to the study, which interviewed a representative sample of 2,007 UK residents, between 25 and 29 August 2023, almost 66% of participants expressed distress regarding their ability to cope with heating costs this impending winter. The concerns are leading families to make significant adjustments to their lifestyles to save energy and, in turn, reduce costs.
Among the most common measures adopted by British families are reducing the use of household appliances (66%), washing clothes at lower temperatures (62%) and reducing thermostat settings (61%). Although these changes bring positive impacts from an environmental point of view, around 18% of those interviewed admitted that they plan not to use heating, a decision that could result in unfavorable conditions on properties and the well-being of residents.
To deal with this growing challenge, experts recommend looking for more efficient heating options and implementing long-term energy efficiency measures to alleviate financial pressure and ensure safe and comfortable environments during the winter months.
