Brazil has reached a significant milestone in its renewable electricity matrix, approaching 8 gigawatts (GW) in generation projects opened by October 2023. National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) recorded an expansion of 7,799.1 megawatts (MW) throughout the year, with emphasis on centralized wind and solar sources, which contributed with a significant 89.8% of this increase, totaling the entry into operation of 7,007.4 MW in last 10 months.
The expansion of the electrical matrix was distributed across 19 states in the five Brazilian regions. The states that led this growth, in descending order until the end of October, were Rio Grande do Norte (1,957.1 MW), Bahia (1,934.0 MW) and Minas Gerais (1,815.7 MW). In the monthly breakdown, Rio Grande do Norte stood out with an increase of 161.4 MW, closely followed by Piauí (153.9 MW), Bahia (152.5 MW) and Pernambuco (150.0 MW). Mato Grosso do Sul also contributed with an increase of 21.5 MW due to the entry into operation of a thermoelectric plant.
The country reached a total inspected power of 195,718.1 MW, according to data from the ANEEL Generation Information System (SIGA), which is updated daily, covering plants in operation and licensed projects in the construction phase. Among these installations in operation, 83.8% are considered renewable, highlighting the growing participation of clean sources in the Brazilian energy matrix.

About Aneel
ANEEL, through SIGA, maintains a daily update of the country's generation data, presenting detailed information about plants in operation and under construction. Furthermore, the agency provides interactive panels, updated monthly, that provide forecasts for the entry of new generating units in the coming years, along with a history of generation expansion since its creation in 1997. In addition, a database containing information on forecasts and monitoring of works for projects granted for construction is also accessible. These initiatives provide transparency and assist in the continuous monitoring of the energy generation sector in Brazil.
