During the first half of 2023, solar and wind energy sources in Brazil experienced notable growth in centralized generation. According to the Monthly Energy Bulletin (BME) of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), solar generation recorded a notable increase of 68%. On the other hand, wind generation grew by 27% until June. This growth highlighted the growing role of solar generation in the energy mix, reflecting a significant boost in the renewable energy sector.
In addition to advances in solar energy, the recent auction of electrical power transmission facilities generated great interest. With all lots sold, the auction reached a notable milestone, exceeding R$ 16 billion in investment. The concession contracts arising from these acquisitions, signed in September, will further drive the growth of solar generation and other renewable resources. This will allow significant progress in energy distribution in several states in Brazil.
The implementation of these projects will not only strengthen the country's electrical infrastructure, but also open doors for the expansion of solar and wind power plants. Such advances are crucial to boosting Brazil's energy transformation, demonstrating the country's ongoing commitment to sustainable practices and a cleaner approach to energy production. The Monthly Energy Bulletin, issued by the Department of Information, Studies and Energy Efficiency (DIEE) of the National Secretariat for Energy Transition and Planning of the MME, highlights the growing role of solar generation in the Brazilian energy sector.
