How the movie 'Avatar' relates to sustainability

The film 'Avatar', produced by James Cameron, won a sequel in 2022, and, like the first film released in 2009, is deeply connected with sustainable and environmental language. A work known worldwide for its technological innovation and Oscar winner in categories such as art direction, visual effects and photography, since its first film it brings the theme of connecting lives with the environment.

As in the first film of the sequel, 'Avatar 2' brings us a plot between humans on a mission to explore a new world, the alien moon Pandora, and the native peoples of the Na'vi society, who lead a life connected with their world in a deep way, full of care and connection. Both sides have completely divergent worldviews, and in the middle of that, we have the protagonist Jake Sully, who in this sequel, has a family formed with Ney'tiri, native to the Na'vi people.

During both films, it is possible to analyze the language that James Cameron wanted to convey to the public through the Na'vi society, a culture that values above all biodiversity, culture, the collective and the responsible use of resources and services. And along with this ideology, we have a protagonist capable of re-signifying his values and principles, due to constant learning about life and its evolution.

The realization of the importance of fighting for what you believe in, through connection with all forms of life, is evident during 'Avatar 2', where, Jake Sully, a human who was able to fit into a way of life focused on caring for his people and planet, he realizes that without fighting for change and defending beliefs, he could end up losing everything he loved and believed in.

Bringing valuable and inspiring teachings, 'Avatar' shows how the speed of evolution and change is a constant without brakes and that in order to have the possibility of a better world, it is necessary to preserve the ways of life, such as the natural resources that we live at our disposal, fauna, flora, water resources, in addition to the need to preserve human contact, between connections, learning, cultures and experiences.

Such constant themes when we talk about sustainability and the means that make it a transforming resource, we have the model of renewable energies, which make it possible to preserve living environmental resources, focusing on shaping them for our care, as is the case, for example, of wind and photovoltaic energy.

Art and life come together to bring inspiration, showing formats that prioritize the positive and distance us from the negative. Did you notice the relationships connecting the sustainable world to the plot of 'Avatar'?
