Chamber of Deputies will prioritize Renewable Energies and Energy Transition in the Second Semester

In a meeting of leaders this Thursday (3), the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), announced that the House will give priority to agendas related to renewable energy in this second half of the legislature. The initiative aims to boost the energy transition and promote sustainable development for the country.
Among the matters mentioned, the Carbon Market project, the Offshore Wind Power Legal Framework and the green hydrogen project stand out. These proposals aim to encourage the use of clean and renewable energy sources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen the Brazilian energy sector.
The Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) also issued a note and stressed that the initiative demonstrates a harmony between the Chamber and the interests of Brazil in relation to the energy transition, since Brazil has a unique opportunity to lead the global energy transition and benefit from the economic opportunities that will arise from the adoption of renewable energies.
In this sense, the government is also working on the National Energy Transition Policy, which should be considered at the next meeting of the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE). The extraordinary meeting awaits President Lula's agenda to be confirmed, as declared by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira.
The matters mentioned by the president of the Chamber will be included in the energy transition package, alongside the Amazon Decarbonization and Gas to Employ Program – a natural gas incentive program. These measures aim to leverage investments in sustainable projects and boost the Brazilian economy.
The energy sector expects that these proposals will be voted on in 2023, enabling Brazil to move towards a cleaner, more sustainable future in harmony with the environment. This commitment by the Chamber of Deputies to intensify the debate on the “green guidelines” is an important step towards a successful energy transition aligned with the aspirations of society and future generations.
Advances in legislation and the promotion of clean and renewable energy are key to reducing dependence on fossil energy sources and combating climate change. The use of more sustainable technologies will boost the creation of green jobs, in addition to making Brazil a global reference in clean energy and innovation.
Working to advance the Free Energy Market, expanding the options and reducing the cost for the consumer and the establishment of institutional frameworks, such as the carbon market, and the legislation on biogas, biomethane and hydrogen production in the country, are crucial steps to promote renewable energy sources.
Brazil is expected to consolidate its leading role in the fight against climate change and become an inspiring example for other nations, demonstrating that economic development can go hand in hand with environmental preservation.
