Brazil Records Significant Growth in the Solar Assets Market in 2023

In the third quarter of 2023, the solar asset market in Brazil recorded notable growth, revealing positive dynamics in public transactions. According to a statistical study published by Greener, the number of publicly announced transactions more than doubled compared to the same period last year, highlighting the significant expansion in the sector.

During the first half of the year, eight public transactions were mapped in the solar assets sector. However, the third quarter surprised us by revealing a total of eleven transactions, indicating a clear acceleration in market activities. This quarterly volatility reflects the dynamics and accelerated pace of negotiations in the renewable energy sector.

The total volume of publicly announced solar asset transactions in the Brazilian market up to the third quarter of 2023 reached an impressive increase of 35% compared to the same period in 2022. This growth highlights the growing interest and confidence of investors in the potential of the solar sector in the country.

Within the scope of plant acquisitions, three transactions were mapped, involving a total of 10 photovoltaic plants, all already operational. Four of these projects are located in Minas Gerais, while six are in Bahia. The installed capacity of these plants reached 256.7 MWp, with a total amount transacted of R$397.4 million, highlighting the economic relevance of these transactions.

In the corporate transaction scenario, one merger and seven acquisitions were recorded, highlighting the notable involvement of companies in the oil and gas sector. These companies demonstrate a strategic movement to diversify and expand their businesses, being responsible for 27% of transactions in the third quarter of 2023.

A significant change in the market was observed with the acquisition of credit traders and managers in distributed generation (GD). This movement reflects a growing trend towards a more decentralized market and focused on new business models, such as Subscription Energy, indicating a positive adaptation to changes in the global energy scenario.

In summary, the third quarter of 2023 revealed an optimistic scenario for the solar assets market in Brazil, marked by a substantial increase in transactions, diversification of companies involved and a clear indication of continued growth in the renewable energy sector. This promising data strengthens Brazil's position as an important player in the global solar energy market.
